Licensed electricians for Hamilton, Hamilton North and Hamilton South. Switchboards, rewires, lighting and fault finding for older homes and local businesses, with a free quote before we start.
Hamilton is one of the older parts of Newcastle, and a lot of the houses, terraces and semis here were built well before modern electrical standards. That is a big part of why we get calls about tripping safety switches, tired switchboards and wiring that was never meant to run a house full of today’s appliances.
Harris Electrical & Solar is a licensed electrical team based in Singleton and working across Newcastle and the Hunter. We look at the job first, explain what needs doing in plain English and give you a clear quote before any work starts.
Whether you own a cottage near Gregson Park, rent out a unit off Beaumont Street or run a business in the area, give us a call on 02 6571 3848 and we will sort it out. Looking for somewhere nearby? Have a look at our Newcastle electrician page.
From a single dodgy power point to a full rewire, here is the work we do most for Hamilton homes. Every job is quoted up front. For the full list, see our residential electrical services page.
Plenty of older Hamilton homes still have a small board in a hallway or under the stairs, and some still run ceramic fuses with no safety switches. We replace them with a modern switchboard with circuit breakers and RCD protection. More on switchboard upgrades.

High ceilings in older cottages suit pendants and feature lights, while dark hallways and kitchens usually need more LED downlights. We check roof access and insulation before we quote so there are no surprises on the day.
02.
Older houses were built when a few power points per room seemed like plenty. We add double power points and USB outlets, put in dedicated circuits for ovens and air conditioners, and hang ceiling fans.
03.
Rewiring a terrace or semi takes planning, because cable runs through old walls and tight roof spaces are not always easy. If your wiring is the old cloth or rubber-covered type, or you are renovating, we will talk you through what a rewire involves before you commit.
04.
NSW landlords have to keep working smoke alarms in their rental properties, and Hamilton has plenty of rentals. We install and replace hardwired and interconnected alarms and can check your safety switches while we are there.
05.
Safety switch tripping, a power point that has gone dead or lights flickering when the fridge kicks in? We trace the fault and fix it properly, rather than just resetting the board and hoping for the best.

Replace existing light with ceiling fans . Excellent job , the electricians were very friendly and respectful of my home and very tidy. I was very grateful and impressed that my job was brought forward by 3 days due to another job of theirs completing early. The entire experience from our initial phone enquiry to scheduling and final install was seamless. We will definitely recommend them to anyone needing work done. Thanks GuysPosted on Google![]()

Highly recommend Harris Electrical and Solar! They recently installed a Sigenergy solar system for us, and the entire experience was outstanding. The team was incredibly professional, friendly, and took the time to explain how everything works, including setting up the mySigen monitoring app. The installation itself is neat, tidy, and running perfectly. It is rare to find a team that combines top-tier technical expertise with such great customer service. Thank you for a fantastic job!Posted on Google![]()

Harris Electrical are amazing. Despite not installing our off-grid system. They were able to help us over the phone and then when it wasn't the system issue but something else they came out with a generator (in case) on a Sat evening to help restore power. Then they trained us on the system so we can be more self sufficient and followed through with check-ins over the coming days. I am highly impressed especially after the lack of service given to us by the original installer.Posted on Google![]()

2 years ago we had a 10kw solar system & 8 kw inverter installed at our house by Harris Electrical & Solar.Kyle did a great job of designing the Solar System to suit our house perfectly, and organising everything to get the job done including switchboard modifications and HWS timer.Kyle spent a lot of time explaining how the system works and what we needed for the best system for us.The installation team were very professional and did a great job, very neat. The system works perfectly & were very happy with it,so 2 years later in August 2026 we asked Kyle about adding a battery. He designed a great system that suits our house and existing solar system. Also with a gateway for black out protection. It is all running really well & our electricity bill is tracking very low which is what we wanted. We would like to thank Kyle and the Harris Electrical and Solar team for their great work and we would highly recommend Harris Electrical and Solar.Posted on Google![]()

I've held off writing this review because I know you only get to do ONE Google review per business, and for such a huge investment, I wanted to give everyone (both the business and the review readers) the benefit of a full, complete and time-tested review. Cooper and the team installed our ground-mounted, 21.6kW Solaredge solar system in April 2023. We were huge electricity users at that stage, with underfloor heating (our main heating source for Winter) being a big chunk of our annual 38MW usage. With the prices of electricity starting to increase hand over fist, we had to think of better solutions to our needs. The solar system definitely helped our situation and kept our electricity costs at bay, despite price increase after increase. But I'll admit it was when Cooper and the team installed our 48kW Sigenergy battery in August 2025 that really tipped things in our favour, together with our moving over to Amber Electricity as our electricity provider, and being willing to monitor and utilise the wholesale electricity market. We also added a fireplace in June 2025 to move away from relying on the underfloor heating, as firewood on our property is free. Before any of these changes, our average monthly electricity bills were $476 from April 2019 to April 2023 (no adjustment for increases on earlier bills or for inflation). Since August last year, with the battery installed and being with Amber, our TOTAL cost with Amber for the last year has been a credit of $21.72. No, I'm not kidding. And that's the total cost, including daily supply charges and Amber's subscription fees. So we paid NOTHING for electricity and being connected to the grid, over the last year. In terms of payback periods, our high-end system (including ground-mounted solar, battery, blackout backup, relays to control the underfloor heating, all meterbox work and the fireplace installed) was not cheap, however from where we were previously and at the electricity prices we were paying in August 2025, our payback period on the whole lot is LESS THAN 5 YEARS. And if we separate the fireplace out and reduce our annual usage to take that into account, our solar system + battery still comes in at around 8-9 years payback, which is still pretty good (considering the bells and whistles it has, the quality, and the ground-mounting adding about $25k alone to the total cost). With regards the workmanship and professionalism of Harris Electrical & Solar, and the quality of the products installed, definitely 5 star! Cooper is wonderfully friendly, insanely knowledgeable and happy to explain things to me in the minute detail that my brain needs. The crew are so friendly and skilled and an absolute pleasure to have working here. They do a stellar job and leave the site wonderfully clean. There were, as there often are, some teething issues, but the guys came back whenever required and worked them out to get everything functioning properly. The concrete baseboard under the battery cracked when the battery was first installed, which was cosmetic only, but they focussed on getting the system up and running, and then return at a later date to take it apart, replace the baseboard and have it all working again by that same afternoon. We even had a power blackout the very first night that the battery was installed but were blissfully unaware, as the blackout backup on the battery kicked in without even a flicker - we were only alerted to the blackout when our neighbours saw our lights on and sent us a text! So yes, I VERY highly recommend Cooper and the team at Harris Electrical & Solar. We have been and will continue to be returning customers. And I love that they're local and focused on ongoing relationships with their clients, not just to get your money for an install and then forget you. Bravo, guys .. you've been instrumental in helping us massively reduce our electricity costs, immediately and well into the future.
You want an electrician who turns up when they say they will, explains the problem without the jargon and charges what they quoted. That is how we work on every job, big or small.
Licensed electricians do the work, we are fully insured, and everything is tested and finished to Australian standards before we leave.
We look at the job, explain your options and give you a clear quote before any work starts. In older homes the scope can change once the walls are open, so we flag it early and talk it through with you.
Our team is based in Singleton and works across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter, so you are dealing with a local crew and not a call centre.
Hamilton streets can be tight for parking and access. We let you know when we are arriving, keep the site tidy and leave your place clean when the job is done.
Electrical, Level 2 work, solar, batteries, EV chargers and air conditioning all under one roof, so there is one team to call.
Yes. Older homes are a big part of our work. We take care with access, tight roof spaces and old wiring, and we explain what we find before we change anything.
Warning signs include old cloth or rubber-covered cabling, brittle wiring, a burning smell, buzzing power points, or a safety switch that keeps tripping. We can inspect the wiring and tell you honestly whether it needs a rewire or just a repair.
Yes. We handle lighting, power, switchboards and fit-off for hospitality and retail. Have a look at our commercial electrical page or call us to talk through your fit-out.
Yes. Service connection and metering work is Level 2 work, and we hold Level 2 accreditation. See our Level 2 electrician page for how it works.
Usually yes, but an older switchboard often needs upgrading first. We check your board and wiring and tell you what is needed. We install solar in Newcastle and EV chargers as well.
Yes. If you have an urgent electrical fault, call us on 02 6571 3848 and we will get someone to you as quickly as we can.
Lost power to the whole house, a burning smell from a power point or a safety switch that will not stay on? If it is safe to do so, turn the main switch off and keep clear of the affected area. Then call us on 02 6571 3848 and we will get someone to you as fast as we can.
